Layout moveable and swinging benchwork sections

I have a down swinging crossover just inside my door into my train room. Yes the reach may be a bit far, but rarely has there been a problem that was close to the wall. The front end of the plate uses chair castor wheels that rotate along a board underneath the plate. The problem is, to enter the layout I have to duck under it. Member since July, From: It is 40" to the bottom of the benchwork but that still requires a lot of bending to clear. Lift or drop bridges move up and down like a drawbridge.

Screw them to one side or the other, scribe around them with a sharp utility blade, dig in slowly with a sharp chiesel, and all you really have to worry about is going too deep. A photo will probably help. Even with my "wide body" I've got enough room to get past the gate when open. That bridge has performed much better than either of the earlier attempts. Use a square and tape measure to get close, scribe again with the knife, but don't drill your screw holes for that side till you test fit and adjust. Where did all of that mess come from on top of my benchwork!!! It was replaced by a heavily built gate with massive, quality hinges.

You'd think you have to eyeball a perfect placement of the mortises for the other side of the hinge, but it isn't as hard as it seems. The overlapping scenery can't interfere with the swing of the hinged section or you'll break it off. Lay plaster cloth on the swing up sections so that it drapes onto the saran wrap half an inch or so. Power came up to the locks from a digital reverser behind the fascia nearby, through the locks to wires running the nether length of the bridge module frame, with their far ends wrapped around one of the three screws securing the plate of the hinge mounted on the bridge module frame. One way to do that is to put regular door hinges on the non-hinged section.
